Rock and Wrap It Up! is a global think tank working to reduce poverty. Using greening tactics, they recover food and other assets to be given to agencies fighting poverty, increasing their operating budgets. This allows the agencies to hire more service providers such as tutors, social workers, job placement counselors and mental health counselors to attack the root cause of poverty. Rock and Wrap It Up! recovers food and other assets in Sports, Music, Schools, Film, T.V., Hospitals and Hotels. Rock and Wrap It Up! helped to write and implement the Federal Food Donation Act of 2008, which encourages all Federal buildings to feed the hungry and keep food out of landfills. Hungerpedia.com, launched in 2011 is a web encyclopedia that enables potential donors to find suitable anti-poverty agencies across North America. Rock and Wrap It Up! has launched The Whole Earth Calculator. This mobile app quantifies and tweets food recovery statistics sensitizing social and environmental efforts to the public.

Dear Friends, You are role models

Rock and Wrap It Up! had an amazing 2015, adding new professional sport teams, film and television productions, colleges, schools (including Kingsport, TN and Guilford County Schools, NC), hospitals, and hotels.  The White House recognized the importance of the Whole Earth Calculator and we are working with the White House Science Adviser to get new lesson plans to American Schools using the Whole Earth Calculator.  We continue to work closely with the USDA and the EPA and continue to recognize partners for their participation in the effort to reduce food waste in our nation.  Our efforts bring healthy food to those in need while keeping this healthy food out of landfill.

Jessie Plotkin joined us as National Asset Manager working out of Boulder, CO and Jocelyn Schreier joined us as Research Analyst working out of NYC.

Mardi Bra and Hannah’s Project were launched in NY at Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg, Brooklyn collecting and distributing feminine hygiene products to thousands of women in need.  American Idol Finalist, Season 10, Robbie Rosen performed at the event.  This project will launch nationally on February 9, 2016.

Rock and Wrap It Up! Volunteers made this a wonderful holiday season for many families in need at St. John Baptist Church in Arverne, NY.  At the Rock and Wrap It Up! Thanksgiving Feast, your served over 500 plates of food to people in our community. Some of our guests needed more than the food served…they needed companionship on a holiday when most people in our country spend the day with family.  You made the day less lonely for them.  Some of our guests wanted to share their holiday meal with family members later in the day…you enabled them to do that also.  Pantry bags were prepared so that guests would have more food later in the week as well.  Some guests were unable to carry all of their packages home alone…you helped there as well by driving them to their homes.

For the Rock and Wrap It Up! Holiday Gift Give Away you collected and gift wrapped new toys to brighten the holiday for many families at the Woodmere Fire House in Woodmere, NY.  Thousands of items were distributed to people in need at St. John Baptist Church.

You did all of this out of the kindness and generosity of your spirit and with respect for our fellow men, women, and children without asking why they were there and what caused them to be in a position of such need.

Thank you. You are role models for your community.

NYC Mardi Bra Launch Dec. 7

BMardiBra

The New York City launch of Rock and Wrap It Up!‘s Mardi Bra initiative will be held at Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on December 7, 2015 at 6 pm. Admission will be a minimum donation of 2 boxes of feminine hygiene products. American Idol finalist Robbie Rosen will perform. Stars Gabriella Pulice and Julia Lambert will lend their support.

Mardi Bra was originally launched in February 2015 on Mardi Gras night with the help of Sharon Osbourne in Los Angeles, who tweeted about the night and made substantial financial donations. Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne were 2002 recipients of Rock and Wrap It Up!’s  Lena and Joseph Mandelbaum Humanitarian Award. Mardi Bra will launch nationally in 20 cities across North America on Mardi Gras night 2016.

Though optional, as with the LA event, women are encouraged to wear bra, bathing suit and athletic tops. Festive beads will be given to all participants. Former WNBA Superstar Susan Wicks will help chair the event.

RWU research has shown that other than food, feminine hygiene products are the most requested items by shelters and pantries assisting in helping indigent teens and women.  RWU asks that each woman purchase a second box when they buy for themselves each month and donate it to help the Mardi Bra program. Additional collection sites are needed, especially in High Schools and Middle Schools, where the program is named Hannah’s Project. Financial donations will also be accepted in lieu of product

Brooklyn Bowl is the ultimate night out, with its groundbreaking integration of premiere music, 16 lanes of bowling, a bar featuring locally crafted beers, and food by the acclaimed Blue Ribbon restaurant group. Located in the beautiful, 19th-century Hecla Iron Works building, the venue — aka “rock and roll heaven” (Village Voice) — boasts a sound system and amenities that “no other local rock club can offer” (The New York Times).

Wearing its homegrown values on its sleeve, Brooklyn Bowl is as committed to locally made products — serving award-winning beer from the adjacent Brooklyn Brewery — as it is to environmental sustainability — it’s the first L.E.E.D.-certified bowling alley in the world. And the food? “Epic,” says Eater. In other words, Brooklyn Bowl’s unprecedented combination of top-flight music, bowling, beer and food is “like nailing a spare on a four-ten split” (The New Yorker).

Where will Adam Graves, Sue Wicks, Isaiah Thomas and John Starks be on August 21?

humanitarian_award_2015
