Our Advocacy Partnerships
Overview
In November 2007, after researching, writing and introducing the Federal Food Recovery Act to exponentially increase excess food into the national pipeline, the Federal Food Recovery Act of 2008, passed unanimously in the House and Senate. The Act encourages federal buildings to donate food from their restaurants, cafeterias and from outside rentals to feed our nation’s hungry. Our presentation at 2009 U.S. E.P.A. meeting “Reducing our Poverty Footprint and Carbon Footprint by Feeding and Greening America” was well received.
Tactics
We have begun the process of working with Federal agencies and partnering them with local agencies. We have started working with the GSA in DC. We are also working with the US Conference of Mayors to encourage City buildings to allow food recovery. We have started a State Building recovery effort.
