We made the American and Canadian national scene. On Friday, August 16, NBC's Real Life produced a segment on Rock and Wrap it Up!'s worldwide efforts to fight hunger. We are in the process of reproducing the piece for you to use in your efforts to recruit more volunteers, venues, films, and businesses to use our proven concepts of contractual obligation as a prime tool to help feed those who hunger worldwide. We encourage you to use these tools as needed. If your local television does stories about your efforts in your hometown, please let us know. Eileen Dzik of Washington, DC produced the segment and we are indebted to her. We will also be featured in the Christian Science Monitor's radio program and newspaper. Thanks to Duncan Moon for his work in helping us reach greater audiences. If you have not seen the outstanding piece done on Rock and Wrap it Up! featuring Ozzy Osbourne, we can arrange for copies to be sent.
We were personally thanked this month by Darius Rucker of Hootie and the Blowfish, Melissa Etheridge and Mary Chapin Carpenter. All three performers expressed sincere appreciation for your efforts. We have also picked up Alice Cooper, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner and President of the United States of America. The Prez's are presently in the Far East and will tour in the Western Hemisphere starting in October. Dave Mathews has also continued his tour, which will probably have two or three more legs.
Lots of thanks to Kathy Kane of GREENPEACE for her efforts in helping us grow. We now have enrolled 53 bands and festivals. I am enclosing new stationary for you to photocopy and use. We averaged 3 shows a night internationally all summer and fed close to 1,000 people a night with leftovers!
We wish to welcome aboard new volunteers: Char Ralph (Spokane WA), Stephanie Shapiro (Hewlett NY), Mike Flowe (Charlotte NC), Marlene Goldstein (New York NY), Linda Zukowski (Marina Del Rey CA) and Mary Lou Callahan (Concord CA). We have been asked to collect the leftovers from the MTV Music Awards party on September 4th, at Bryant Park in NYC. Thanks in advance to Beth Smith, Special Events Director for MTV. We may need additional volunteers for the MTV food pickup. Call as soon as possible if you are interested. We welcome the efforts of Mary Chapin Carpenter as she has included us in her Rider and we will be feeding the hungry of the United Kingdom in her upcoming tour across the Atlantic.
Dr. Robert Muratore, our Internet Director, has scanned all of our newsletters on to our homepage, including the August photo issue with Bruce Hornsby. It was scanned in color for those with color printers. We need to recruit interested people to help us in our efforts. If you have Rock and Wrap it Up! pictures of you at a soup kitchen or helper, we can arrange to place it on our homepage. We will be sending out additional band itineraries and letters as they become available to us. If you cannot pickup an event you are scheduled for please let me know who can.
